Ptosis / Does the eyelid droop in diabetes / Can pain killers weaken the eyelids of our eyes? / Does the medicine of arthritis weaken the eyelids? Let us know the answer to these questions from Dr. Sumitra.
Eyelids are of great importance in the world of disease and medicine. The blinking of the eyelids is very important for our eyes. When we blink, many activities happen at the same time. On one hand the eyes are cleaned and on the other hand the eyes also get a moment's rest. We blink 10-15 times in a minute. We blink less while watching some important scenes. Foreign cinematographers do frame changes in the editing of their films keeping in mind the blinking of our eyelids, doing so raises foreign films above the normal level. There are many types of deformities of the eyelids, one of them is called ptosis. In this, the patient's eyelids do not open completely. The eyelids of many people remain bowed. Earlier this disease was found in very few people. These days there has been a big jump in this disease. Earlier, only congenital ptosis was seen more, but nowadays ptosis is being found in people of all ages. Men and women in general are victims, with no links to country or caste. We can divide Ptosis into two parts - one is congenital and the other is acquired i.e. bending of the eyelids at any time after birth.
By what symptoms does one get to know that he is suffering from ptosis?
If someone has ptosis in one eye, then one eye will look small and one big, there will be no crease on the top of the eyelids in the slanted eyelids, sometimes if the eyelids come down too much, then there is a problem in seeing and the patient can use the fingers. He tries to look by raising the eyelids, keeps the neck raised, also pulls the brow upwards so that his eyelids are raised and there is no problem in seeing.
Why ptosis has increased?
The reason for its increase in today's time is our mental pressure, uncontrolled eating habits, diabetes, brain stroke, brain tumor, paralysis of 3rd nerve, myasthenia gravis, injury, after any eye surgery like cataract surgery or after lasik surgery, The number of patients of Ptosis is also increasing due to the side effects of many medicines. It is natural to have ptosis with increasing age, but today's human being troubled by his mental problems has started taking many types of neurological medicines, the effect of these medicines is on the muscles and nerves of our eyelids and many epilepsy, epilepsy, osteo arthritis. Patients are also prone to ptosis from the side effects of pain killer drugs. Nowadays a new trend has come of Mood Stabilizer, in this, in general, young people resort to medicines to stabilize their mood, side effects of these drugs can also cause ptosis. The use of pain killers is a common practice. The pain killer of Morphine caste should be consumed consciously. Cocktails of many types of medicines are available in the market for instant relief, avoid the consumption of these medicines, always take medicines only on the advice of the doctor, as far as possible avoid the use of unintended medicines. It has been seen many times that the bending of the eyelids does not give any problem to the patient, but he suffers from an inferiority complex.
My experience with ptosis patients
I want to share with you some things from my 21 years of medical experience that due to ptosis in young children, they have to face embarrassment many times in school, among friends, sometimes it reaches to the point that the child is in school. Leaves going and stops till studies, does not even attend social rituals. Many times the bending of one eyelid also raises a question mark on the character of the person and then I have learned from a female patient of ptosis that due to her bending both the eyelids, she was neither seen in good eyes nor talent in the society. She was unseen, but as soon as she came, people called her drunkard, many people even ridicule her by saying that she is drunk right from the morning. Our society shows sympathy to a patient or a disabled person only when he walks around with the tag of his disease on himself or else he has to face ridicule.
Treatment
Talking about the treatment of ptosis, the eyelids are raised by doing an operation. It has been seen many times that this surgery is not even successful, either the eyelid is raised more, or less, sometimes after some time ptosis gets back, stitch marks are also seen on the eyelids after surgery. . Overall operation is not a good option.
Non surgical option that I had seen doing for ages now is ptosis spectacles.
There are also some non-surgical remedies for ptosis. Food, eye exercises and special glasses are beneficial. The only two options for patients with congenital ptosis are surgery or surgery without crutch glasses that keep the eyelids raised. Knowing the cause earlier helps in treatment in post-birth ptosis. Consumption of fruits, vegetables or their tablets, generally found in vitamin B, calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin E, taurine, lecithin, essential fatty acids, not only gives nutrition to the eyelids but also to the eyes. Special is profitable. Eye exercises also give strength to the muscles of the eyelids, such as keeping the index finger on the eye brow and try to pull the eye brow up while try n close the eyes. So apply force in two opposite directions. This will create a pressure on the muscles of the eyelid. After this, open the eyes and close tightly, after doing this 4 to 5 times, keep the eyes closed for 6 seconds, do this several times, open the eyes and move the eyes up and down, do this 10 times daily, several times a day . For an immediate solution, try Ptosis' crutch glasses that will lift your lids and leave the onlooker unaware that there's a problem with your eyelids.
